Db Equipment – A digital‑first voyage

Db Equipment is merging an urban and active lifestyle to challenge the traditional approach of luggage – with a mission to make better journeys through smarter travel gear.

Since founded in 2012 by Swedish freeski legend, Jon Olsson, and Norwegian product designer, Truls Brataas, Db Equiptment have established themselves as a globally recognized brand – winning several well known awards for both design and functionality. With roots in the action sports community, they are merging an urban and active lifestyle to challenge the traditional approach of luggage – with a mission to make better journeys through smarter travel gear.

Being a digital‑first brand driven by a strong macro‑influencer engine, Db Equipment realized they needed a platform that could enable them to drive not only a high paced direct‑to‑consumer business, but also a high paced direct‑to‑retail style wholesale business. Db Equipment realized that they were carrying some heavy baggage related to the architectural setup which prevented their global ambitions. They were also lacking many necessary features for carrying out their global strategy. As a result, time, resources and costs stacked up on maintenance and hosting – not to mention lost deals when the system went down. Db Equipment needed to find a solution that allowed them to continue to grow and be the digital‑first, global brand that they wanted to be.

After researching the market, Db Equipment found Centra. A SaaS, lifestyle geared, headless platform on a mission to help brands grow in the world at large. Through Centra, Db Equipment was able to gather and synchronize all of their software integrations under one umbrella – giving them a rapid‑fast and stable commerce site. The headless flexibility allowed them to build a custom made CMS – specifically tailored to handle their agile content marketing strategy. It has also allowed them to seamlessly enter new markets, with one dynamic store that automatically adapts content, campaigns, language and currency depending on the visitors’ GeoIP and history. They opted for replacing their old setup with Centra and prioritizing tools to drive sales over tools for administration.

Db Equipment launched their new, global online store on Centra in 2019 and saw immediate results – growing their e‑commerce operations by over 50% within the first year. They’ve also expanded to over 40 countries, reaching new travelers and adventurers worldwide.
